Description

The School is a mid-19th century former school building, designed in a T-plan and consisting of one tall storey. It is constructed from coursed and squared rag-stone, featuring ashlar quoins and dressings. The roofs are ridged and gabled, covered with peg-tile, and have verge boards in a Victorian Gothic style, which are hollow moulded and cusped, with octagonal pendants at the apexes. The windows are tall rectangular openings with hollow chamfered mullions and no transoms. The east-facing street frontage includes a gabled porch with a four-centred door head and a datestone above that reads: AD. 1850. This elevation is completed by four buttresses, each with three offsets, and interspersed with two single and two pairs of double rectangular lancet windows. At the center of the roof, there is a lantern that is part tile-hung, with saltire traceried details and a pyramidal roof supported by bold bracketed eaves.
