Description
The Parish Church of St Mary and St Hugh is a church of medieval origin located on Churchgate Street. It features a cruciform plan without aisles and has a tower at the crossing topped with a tall broach spire that is shingled. The church underwent a complete restoration between 1878 and 1880, resulting in few remaining original features. Its structure includes a carcase made of large flints, some Roman brick, and indurated conglomerate with stone dressings. Notably, there is one Norman window in the north-west bay of the nave wall, and the interior contains eleven brasses.
