Description
Flaxley School is a building dating from 1840, constructed as a school. It features small, squared coursed stone with ashlar dressings on its two main original facades, while the rest of the building and the extension are made of random rubble with ashlar dressings. The roof is tiled. The structure is single storey and has an L-plan layout, with the main part originally consisting of three windows wide.
The main face includes a gabled extension that projects forward on the left side, containing one window, and two windows in the main block on the right, set above a plain plinth. The windows are designed with 2-centred arches and hoodmoulds, featuring wooden Y-tracery and iron opening lights. The eaves are scalloped. The entrance is located in the right return and consists of a 2-centred arch with a Y-tracery fanlight above an eight-panel door, which is four panels wide, and is sheltered by a 20th-century porch. There is a small 20th-century lean-to beyond the porch. Above the door, there is a datestone with bold letters and serifs. Inside, the trusses are exposed, with two sets of angle braces supporting the principal rafters.
