Description
Blowers is a house that was originally built as cottages in the early to middle 17th century. It features a timber-framed and plastered construction with a 'T' shaped plan. The south end has two-storey, two-bay crosswings topped with a half-hipped thatched roof, which includes a gable end stack on the west side and a truncated stack on the east side. To the north, there is a single-storey and attic lower block with a peg tiled roof, half-hipped at the north end and a central ridgeline, along with a red brick stack and a lean-to dormer on the west side. The windows are a mix of 19th-century small pane casements and 20th-century timber casements, with a 20th-century black boarded, lead roofed oriel bay on the west elevation of the lower block. In front of the crosswing, there is a projecting porch made of red brick and black boarding, featuring a lean-to peg tiled and patent glazed roof. Inside the crosswing, the structure shows conventional box framing typical of the mid-17th century, with jowled posts and straight bracing. The lower block has an unusual aisled structure with jowled posts aligned parallel to the plan, a narrower stack bay in the centre that includes a later stack and a bread oven with a well-crafted wrought and cast iron door. The rear of the building now has a gabled central dormer in the roof slope.
