Description
Red Lion Cottages is a house that has been divided into two cottages. It dates from the early 17th century and has undergone later alterations and additions. The building is timber-framed with brick infill panels and some areas of brick rebuilding, topped with a plain tile roof and featuring a brick ridge stack. It has a T-shaped plan, consisting of a hall range with a cross-wing at the north end and a later extension wing at the south end. The structure is two storeys high and has a front with three windows, all of which are 20th-century casements.
The hall range displays one tier of square panels just below the eaves, supported by short straight braces, and there is a 20th-century door with a segmental head to the right. This hall range is set back from the 17th-century gabled cross-wing, which features a double collar roof truss with vertical struts between the horizontal members. The left side of this cross-wing shows exposed framing with three tiers of square panels and short curved braces. The 19th-century extension has a collar-and-tie-beam roof truss and a lateral stack on the right side. The interior has not been inspected.
