Description
Walnut Tree Cottage is a cottage dating from around 1500. It is timber framed and plastered, consisting of one storey with attics and features a half hipped thatched roof. The front of the cottage has a wide eyebrow dormer, 20th-century leaded light casements, and an off-centre small gabled porch with peg tiles. There is an off-centre ridgeline stack that has prominent copings. The timber framing is exposed on the west gable end, which includes glazed infill and a small lean-to at the rear. Inside, it has a small open hall-house with a 16th-century inserted floor, interrupted tie beams at both ends, and a two-bay hall with a simple collar and rafter roof that is well soot blackened. There is a late inserted stack with an inglenook fireplace and traces of a former timber stack in the roof space.
