Description
Old Fenners is a cottage that dates back to the 16th century or earlier. It features a timber frame with plaster and a thatched roof, which is gabled at the west end and hipped down to a lower single-storey outhouse at the east. The cottage has one storey and attics, with a thatched lean-to on the north side. There are four eyebrow dormers on the south roof slope, along with a small square stack and a large 'L' plan stack located behind the ridgeline. The windows are 19th-century leaded light casements. Originally, it was a small open hall house with a floored end at the east. Inside, there is a cambered tie beam with remnants of a simple collar and rafter roof, as well as traces of a large hall window. An early stack features a moulded brick shelf above a timber mantel beam. The two bays to the west are later extensions, and the top plate of the first phase shows halved and bridled scarf joints.
