Description
The Barn is a building that was originally a byre and has been converted into a house. It dates from around 1600 and was converted in 1980. The structure is timber framed, with the east elevation plastered and the rest weatherboarded, topped with a roof of black glazed pantiles. It consists of four unequal bays arranged approximately north-south, with the end bays being storeyed.
The east elevation, which faces Lamarsh Hill, features one 20th-century casement window and has a gablet roof with a cylindrical metal flue. The main entrance is located at the south end. On the west elevation, there is a pair of sliding glass windows along with three other windows of various types, including one fixed light in a gabled dormer and two skylights, all dating from the 20th century.
Inside, the building displays jowled posts and straight bracing to wallplates that are trenched inside heavy studs. It features face-halved and bladed scarfs, arched braces to cambered tiebeams, and low-pitched wind-bracing, some of which has been replaced. The middle bays are open to the roof, while the original entrances on the west and east sides have been blocked.
