Description

Boutell's Farmhouse is a house dating from the late 16th century, with extensions made in the 20th century. It is timber framed, plastered, and has a roof covered with handmade red clay tiles. The building has four bays arranged in a northwest-southeast alignment, featuring an axial chimney stack located one bay from the southeast end. There is a 20th-century lean-to extension along the entire southwest elevation, which includes two 20th-century chimney stacks and a smaller lean-to beyond. A lean-to porch is situated at the northern corner, providing a side entrance. The farmhouse is one storey high with attics.

On the northeast elevation, there are two 20th-century casement windows and an additional one in a gabled dormer. The structure displays heavy studding, with some areas renewed using lighter studs. The southeast and middle rooms contain axial beams and joists that are horizontally sectioned, all of which are chamfered with step stops. In the rear wall, there is a framed window that has mortices for three diamond mullions. The brickwork of the main hearth has been largely renewed, and there is a 20th-century grate in the southeast room. The roof structure appears to have been rebuilt, although much of it is concealed by interior finishes.
