Description
Daw's Hall is a house dating from the 16th and 18th centuries. It is timber framed and plastered, with a roof made of handmade red clay tiles and grey slate. The building has three bays aligned northwest to southeast, featuring a mid-16th century axial chimney stack. At the southeast end, there is a large entrance range that forms an L-plan, complete with end chimney stacks from the late 18th century. In the northern angle, there is a loggia with a lean-to roof from the early 19th century, which is now walled in. An ancillary range to the northwest dates from the 18th century.
The house is two storeys tall and has a symmetrical southeast elevation. It features a half-glazed door in a pedimented porch supported by two columns, with six stone steps leading up to it. There are two-storey splayed bays on either side, as well as a splayed bay above. The ground floor has sash windows with 4-12-4 lights, featuring early glass, while the first floor has sash windows with 4-16-4 lights on each side and 4-12-4 lights in the middle. The building has a dentilled cornice and a hipped roof with a low pitch.
At the rear, there is a blocked door with a Tudor doorhead in the southwest wall, along with a chamfered beam and joists that have step stops. There is also a moulded mantel beam, and in the northwest end, there are two unglazed windows with four of eight diamond mullions still in place. The loggia features stone columns with capitals in a Corinthian-derived style, which are now partly incorporated into the walls.
