Description
Emson's Farmhouse is a house that was formerly a farmhouse, dating from the early 17th century, with additions and alterations made in the 19th century. The building is timber-framed and plastered, featuring 19th-century painted brick casing, and incorporates a rubble flint wall in its rear extension. It has plain tiled roofs and two ridge stacks. The house is two storeys high, with attics and a cellar, and follows an original lobby entry plan that includes a rear stair turret and a 19th-century service wing. There are two four-paned hung sash windows on the ground floor and two on the first floor, along with a 20th-century glazed door. Inside, the farmhouse has stop-chamfered and boxed ceiling beams, with an attic floor that was inserted in the 19th century. A clunch lined spiral stair leads to the cellar, which is cut into natural chalk, and the hearths have been sealed and relined.
