Description
Green Farmhouse is a house that was formerly a farmhouse, dating from the late 14th century with alterations and additions from the late 16th and 17th centuries, as well as changes made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is timber-framed with roughcast render and has a brick plinth. It features a plain tiled roof, with a gault brick ridge stack and a gable end stack on the left side. The house is two storeys high and originally had an open hall of three bays, which has been extended by one bay to both the north and south.
On the west elevation, there is a central glazed-panelled door with a canopy, located in a lobby entry position. The ground floor has four horizontal sliding sash windows with small panes, and there are five smaller similar windows on the first floor. Inside, there is a substantial timber frame with later partitions and floor frames that reuse medieval timbers. The smoke blackened collar rafter roof is almost complete, with gable end trusses showing weathering on their external faces. There is an open hearth to the south that may date from the late 16th century, while the hearth to the north has been rebuilt to accommodate a 19th-century staircase with one straight flight.
