Description
Flaxmans is a Grade II listed building located on Linton High Street. It consists of three dwellings that were formerly one house, dating from the late 16th century, with alterations and additions from the late 17th century and 19th century. The structure is timber-framed and plastered, featuring a 19th-century painted brick facade facing the street, and has plain tile roofs. The building has ridge stacks, both of which have been rebuilt, located to the left and to the right of the centre, with three diagonal shafts.
The layout is a two-storey, three-unit plan with attics, and includes a rear stair turret and chimney stacks that were added in the late 17th century. The building was refronted and divided into three separate dwellings in the 19th century. The street elevation showcases three panelled doors with rectangular fanlights, and four ground floor four-paned hung sash windows set in cambered brick arches, along with four similar windows on the first floor.
Inside, there are sealed hearths to the main stack, and exposed chamfered brick hearths in the first and ground floor rooms of No. 131, which is at the east end. These rooms feature plaster panels above and partially damaged plaster cornices. Notably, there is a wall painting in the chimney panel of the first-floor room, depicting an architectural roofscape design in blues and ochres. No. 133 has an ovolo stopped axial beam and a boarded ceiling with reeded fillets, as well as a winding stair with an octagonal newel post that terminates in a simple carved finial at the attic floor.
