Description
Zenkers is a house dating from the late 16th century, with additions and alterations from the 17th century, and has recently been renovated. It features a timber-framed structure that is exposed and plastered, with pantiled roofs that are half hipped at the cross wing. The house has a large red brick ridge stack on the left side of the lower range and a side stack on the cross wing, both of which have had their upper courses rebuilt. The building is two storeys high; the hall was originally single storey and has an integral cross wing to the east, along with a 17th-century stair turret in the angle. There is also a single storey range from the 17th century to the west. The main range has a glazed 20th-century door, while there is a boarded door to the left. The ground floor has five casement windows, and the first floor has four casement windows. The exposed timber frame on the front elevation displays both straight and curved tension braces made from reused timber. Inside, there are exposed floor frames and two inglenook hearths, along with 17th-century panelled and boarded doors. The cross wing has a side purlin roof with curved wind braces in each bay, while the hall roof is sealed. F. Zenker, a gentleman, owned the property in 1720.
