Description

Yen Hall Farmhouse is a house that dates from the 16th century, with renovations in the late 17th century. It features a timber-framed structure that is plaster rendered and has red brick elements. The roof is tiled and includes a ridge stack. There are 19th century grey brick upper courses on a chimney that dates to around 1700, and an external stack at the northeast end made of red brick with offsets, also from around 1700. The farmhouse retains two bays and part of a third bay from the original 16th century house, while the bay at the southwest end was likely rebuilt around 1700. The building has two storeys and an attic, with the north side showcasing 16th century timber-framing that is now rendered. A modern frieze of pargetting is present between the two storeys. The front features late 20th century two and three-light 19th century casements, along with a doorway opposite the stack that has a modern door and doorcase. The south side has three gable dormers, one of which is older, and the south wall is constructed of red brick from around 1700, recently rebuilt using original bricks. There are three 19th century casements on the first floor. The northeast end wall is also made of red brick. Inside, timber-framing is visible, with substantial scantling and closely spaced studs. The ceiling joists are laid flat and are stop-chamfered. The farmhouse is located on a moated site.
