Description
Cobwebs is a house located on the north-west side of High Street in West Wickham. It has origins dating back to the early 17th century, with reconstructions and additions made in the 18th century. The building is timber-framed and plastered, featuring a brick front wall. It has a tiled, half-hipped roof that includes an early 17th-century ridge stack with grouped shafts set diagonally, as well as a southwest projecting end stack from around 1700. An addition from around 1800 forms an L-plan and the house is two storeys high with an attic.
The nearly symmetrical front elevation has two twelve-pane hung sash windows on the first floor and four similar windows on the ground floor, positioned on either side of the doorway. The doorway is framed by a flat hood and a moulded doorcase, both dating from around 1800. At the rear, the 1800 addition is constructed of brick and thatch, and is also one storey high with an attic. Inside, the entrance hall features an exposed moulded ceiling beam.
