Description
Brook House is a house located on the north side of Brook Lane in Wigmore. It dates back to the 16th century and was remodeled in the early to mid-19th century. The building is timber-framed but has been refronted and refaced in brick, topped with a shallow-pitched slate roof and featuring rear brick stacks.
The house has two storeys and consists of five bays, with a small gable above the fourth entrance bay. All windows have cambered heads and stone sills; the ground floor windows are 16-pane sashes with moulded architraves, while the first floor windows have eight panes. The main entrance features a gabled timber porch with trellis infill, and the doorway has a moulded round head, pilasters, a six-panel door, and a traceried fanlight.
Inside, there are some exposed wall framing and original moulded ceiling beams and joists. The interior also includes a large fireplace, and in the main entrance hall, there is a 19th-century geometrical staircase with a moulded handrail.
