Description

Oak Cottage is a house with probable origins in the 16th century, featuring additions from the 17th century and alterations from the mid-19th and mid-20th centuries. The building is partially faced with stucco and includes timber framing with painted brick and rendered infill, along with some weatherboarding. The roofs are made of slate and corrugated metal, and the main range has a large central brick ridge stack from the 19th century.

The house is two storeys high and consists of two bays aligned north/south, with a large central chimney that likely indicates a lobby entrance. The west front elevation features two ground floor windows with two-centred arched heads, Y-traceried glazing bars, and 2-light casements, as well as two first floor 3-light casements. The central entrance has a flat canopy supported by metal brackets, leading to a two-centred arched doorway with a 20th-century half-glazed door and a traceried fanlight above.

The 17th-century south wing is likely composed of two framed bays and two levels. The original framing consisted of three rows of square panels from the sill to the wall-plate, but the roof has been raised, adding an extra row of panels at the eaves level. The west elevation includes two multi-paned windows with plank weatherings flanking a 20th-century door, and there is also a large door at the south end. Additionally, there is a 17th-century wing on the rear elevation.
