Description

The Post Office is a farmhouse that has been converted into a post office and house. It dates from the 17th century and was refronted in the early 18th century, with further alterations made in the mid-19th century. The building is timber-framed with rendered and painted brick infill on a rubble base, partly roughcast, and has been refaced in painted handmade brick. It features slate roofs and a central brick ridge stack. The structure is L-shaped, with the main range aligned north/south consisting of two framed bays and a central chimney bay that forms the lobby entrance. An adjoining wing, likely one framed bay, is located to the north-east.

The building stands two storeys high with an attic and has a three-course band between the main storeys on the front elevation. The framing of the main range includes four rows of square panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with a long straight lower corner brace exposed at the left end. The truss includes a collar and tie-beam, two struts to the collar, two raking struts in the lower corners, and a V-strut above the collar. The rear wing has three rows of square panels from the sill to the wall-plate.

On the west front elevation, the outer bays feature 19th-century casements with three lights; the ground floor casements have transoms and cambered heads. The central first floor has a blind 18th-century cross-casement. The entrance is centrally located and includes a flat canopy supported by wrought iron brackets, a moulded architrave, and a partly-glazed six-panelled 19th-century door. There is also an attic light in the left gable end, and a 19th-century wing is located to the rear right of the building.
