Description

Queen’s House is a 17th-century house with later 19th and 20th-century alterations. It has a T-shaped plan, consisting of a main range running east to west with a cross-wing intersecting it at the west end. The construction is a mix of timber framing with rendered infill, brick refacing, and replacement walling, with rubble sections. The roofs are covered in plain tiles. A brick stack is located on the south side of the main range, and a shorter rubble stack is on the west side. The house has two storeys and a cellar. The timber framing on the front exhibits two rows of square panels per storey, and a tie-beam truss at the east end features decorative lattice struts. The south front has two 2-light casements and a small 19th-century leaded light on the ground floor, and a 3-light and two single-light casements above. The main entrance is protected by a flat canopy supported by console brackets, and has a 20th-century door. A two-storey, hipped roof canted bay window with large casements projects from the left-hand gable end. Rear additions are lean-to in style.
