Description
Moynes Farmhouse is a house dating from the 16th century, with additions and alterations from the 17th century and later. It is timber framed and weatherboarded, featuring double range roofs covered with red plain tiles and central and rear chimney stacks made of red brick. The building has two storeys, with three three-light casement windows on the first floor and tripartite vertically sliding sash windows on the ground floor. The central entrance has a vertically boarded door with a moulded surround and a moulded flat canopy above it.
Inside the front range, there are exposed heavy timber frames from the 15th and 16th centuries, with moulded and stop-chamfered bridging joists. Some 16th-century panelling is present, along with the upper part of a fluted pilaster, which has a carved capital dated to 1525. There is also a carved jowled storey post and blue painted inscriptions on the landing ceiling, which include F?E?B & Eb in coloured frames and FC 184 without a frame. The interior features a back-to-back inglenook fireplace and an original rear left wing with heavy chamfered bridging joists. The 17th-century rear right range contains some 18th-century panelled doors with L hinges and some vertically boarded doors. The farmhouse is situated on a moated site.
