Description
West Hydes is a house dating from the early 17th century, with 19th-century rear extensions. It is timber framed and weatherboarded, topped with a red plain tiled roof and features an attached diagonal shaft red brick chimney stack. The building has two storeys and a two-window range of small paned vertically sliding sashes, with pentice boards above the ground floor windows. A central 20th-century half-glazed door provides entrance. The painted brick rear extension consists of two bays and a chimney bay. Inside, notable features include chamfered bridging joists and jowled storey posts. There is a back-to-back inglenook fireplace with a stop-chamfered mantel beam over one side, while the other side has an angled design with chamfered brick jambs and a Tudor arch. Additionally, there are two smaller but similar brick fireplaces on the first floor.
