Description

Shepreth’s war memorial is located on a small Green bordered by High Street and Meldreth Road. It features a 3.5-meter high Celtic cross made of granite, with the head set on a tapered shaft that is mounted on a tapered plinth, all resting on a three-stepped square base. The head and shaft are inscribed in relief with the words:

TO/ THE/ GLORY OF GOD/ AND/ IN/ MEMORY/ OF/ THE/ MEN/ OF/ THIS/ VILLAGE/ WHO/ GAVE/ THEIR/ LIVES/ IN/ THE/ GREAT/ WAR/ 1914/ 1918

The plinth lists the ten names of those who died in the First World War, and three additional names of men who died in the Second World War have been added below. Surrounding the memorial is a flagged area defined by a low chain suspended on squat stone posts.
