Description

Corner Cottage is a cottage that was subdivided in the early 19th century and is now a single dwelling. It dates from the early to mid-18th century and has been extended. The building features a clay bat on a flint plinth, with plaster rendered walls and a hipped long straw thatch roof. The original cottage consists of two bays and has been extended to the northwest and southeast. It is two storeys high and has three original wood frame casement windows with leaded lights and original casement fastenings on the first floor, along with two casement windows and two boarded doors on the ground floor. The extensions are from the late 18th or early 19th century and are also made of clay bat, plaster rendered, and thatched.

Inside, the flint plinth of the original gable end wall to the northwest is visible between the two ground floor rooms. There are small abutting fireplaces made of clay bat that are now partly sealed, suggesting they may have been reconstructed later. An original framed partition wall is associated with the staircase beside the stack. The cottage appears to have started as one dwelling, was converted into two in the early 19th century, and is now back to being one. The small abutting hearths and doors indicate a date around 1800. The roof structure is uniform in scantling, and evidence from the 1764 Estate Map supports the early to mid-18th century date.
