Description
Audley Cottage is a house with origins dating back to the 17th century, but it was significantly remodeled in the mid-19th century. The building features a timber frame that is plaster rendered and includes brick elements, topped with steeply pitched roofs that are mainly tiled, along with internal stacks from the 19th century. The layout consists of two bays with a crosswing on the left side. It has one storey and an attic, with a single gable dormer.
The front of the house includes a mid-19th century Tudor Gothic casement window with three lights, chamfered mullions, and diamond panes. There is a gabled porch at the entrance, featuring a half-glazed door that has similar mid-19th century glazing bars. The crosswing has another mid-19th century casement window and above it, a canted oriel window with a hipped, tiled roof supported by a carved corbel. Additional diamond pane casements can also be found.
The brick bay on the right side was originally a shop, dating from the 19th to 20th century. Inside, the house retains shallow arched openings from the mid-19th century, along with a rear doorway and door that are contemporary with the remodeling. The staircase, featuring stick balusters and a closed string, although possibly repaired, is also from this period.
