Description
Merton House is a house that dates from the late 18th century, with a mid-19th century enlargement at the rear. It is constructed of grey brick and features a tiled mansard roof with a dentil eaves cornice and flush end stacks. The building has two storeys and an attic, with a three-brick band separating the storeys. There are three gabled dormers with modern casements. The symmetrical facade includes three recessed, twelve-pane hung sashes set in segmental arches, with a similar arch above one ground floor window. A gabled porch, dated 1910, leads to the doorway, and there is a canted bay window of similar date on the right side. The extensive rear additions, which are late 19th century, are also made of grey brick. This includes the garden wall, primarily constructed of grey brick but featuring some medieval stone.
