Description
The barns forming the northwest side of the courtyard, located 40 meters northwest of the stable block at Ickwell Bury, consist of a range of structures from the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. The earliest building to the northeast is a large barn with a substantial timber frame on a red brick plinth, weatherboarded, and topped with a clay tile roof. This barn includes a lower gabled block to the north, which was formerly a cart entrance, and a lower gabled brick wing to the south. It was converted in the 20th century for educational purposes and features casement windows with glazing bars.
To the southwest is an 18th-century timber framed barn with five bays and a queen strut roof. The southeast wall was rebuilt in the early 19th century using red brick and includes four sash windows with glazing bars, along with a cart entrance, all under a clay tiled roof. Further southwest is a lower block from the late 19th century, constructed of red brick with a clay tiled roof, featuring mullion and transom windows, one part glazed door, and one plank door. Projecting from the rear of this block is a late 18th-century timber framed barn, which is partly weatherboarded and partly filled with red brick, also covered with a clay tile roof. These buildings are included for their group value.
