Description
Ickwell Grange is a house located in Ickwell, Northill, dating from the late 18th century, which encases an earlier building likely from the 17th century. The structure is made of red brick with a clay tile roof and features a double-pile plan, standing two storeys high with attics. It has a hipped two-span roof and a symmetrical front elevation with five bays. The brickwork, which was once rendered, is now exposed and displays a variety of bonding patterns. The central window on the first floor is blocked, while the other windows are sash types with glazing bars set under flat arches, and they include later wooden shutters. The central entrance features a door with two moulded panels, a rectangular fanlight, a fluted architrave, and a flat hood supported by cut brackets. There are integral red brick stacks on both side elevations. The rear block, which encases the earlier building, includes a substantial back-to-back hearth served by a red brick multiple ridge stack. Each side elevation has a first-floor Venetian window that lights the central corridor. The interiors are rather plain, and there is a 20th-century flat-roofed addition to the west.
