Description
Tompion's Cottage is a 17th-century cottage that has been reworked in the 19th century. It features a timber-framed structure with colourwashed roughcast render and a thatched roof. The cottage has a three-room plan, with the western bay likely added later, and it is one storey with attics.
On the road-facing side, there is one two-light casement window, one round-headed casement window with pointed arched glazing bars, and one three-light casement window, all of which have leaded lights. The entrance is a plank door located under a 20th-century gabled porch. A double red brick ridge stack with diagonally set flues is present on the roof. The western gable includes a canted bay with leaded lights on the ground floor and a round-headed window similar to the front window in the attic.
The front of the cottage displays a 20th-century plaque that reads: "The birthplace of Thomas Tompion, clockmaker. Born 1639. Died 20th November 1713. Buried in Westminster Abbey."
