Description

A house, originally one building, now divided into two properties at 27 and 28 Market Square, in Potton. It probably dates from the 16th century, with significant alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. The exterior is a colourwashed roughcast render, which obscures some underlying timber framing and brick rebuilding. The roof is covered in clay tiles. The building follows an L-shape, with the right-hand gable projecting slightly and having a lower roofline.

The ground floor of number 27 has been built out to the line of the gable and now features a 20th-century shop front and entrance door. Number 28 also has a 20th-century shop front. The first floor contains one 20th-century casement window and two tripartite sash windows with glazing bars. Chimney stacks have been removed. The west-facing elevation of number 28, which borders Sun Street, has 20th-century replacement casement windows. It adjoins numbers 3 and 5 Sun Street, which are listed separately.
