Description
Crispins Restaurant comprises two houses, now combined into a single property, with a ground floor adapted for commercial use. The visible facade dates from the 18th century, though the underlying building is likely of 17th-century origin. The front is constructed of red brick, with significant portions laid in a header bond, and likely incorporates some timber framing. The roof is covered with modern tiles. Number 22 is two stories high, while Number 23 is two stories with an attic. The window placement is irregular across both properties. Number 22 features four first-floor windows: two are blind, and two are 19th-century sash windows with glazing bars, all set beneath gauged brick flat arches. The ground floor has a similar sash window on the right-hand side and a 19th-century shop front on the left. The shop front includes a six-panel door surmounted by a rectangular fanlight to its right, and a wide sash window with glazing bars to its left. Panelled pilasters support a simple cornice. Number 23 has a sash window with glazing bars under a gauged brick flat arch on its ground floor. The first floor has two narrower sash windows with glazing bars, also under gauged brick flat arches. Two hipped dormers light the attic, each containing a two-light casement with glazing bars. A doorway on the left-hand side has a part-glazed door, a rectangular fanlight, and a flat hood supported by cut brackets.
