Description

No 4 Leighton Street is a house that features an 18th-century refronting of an earlier building, likely from the 17th century. The structure is built with vitrified header bond brickwork and red brick dressings, and it may contain a timber-framed core. The roof is tiled and dates from the 20th century.

The house has a three-bay plan and stands two storeys tall with attics. The fenestration is somewhat irregular. On the ground floor, there are two sash windows with glazing bars, which are set beneath slightly cambered gauged brick heads. To the right, there is an early 19th-century canted bay window that contains sashes with glazing bars and moulded frames. The first floor features four sash windows with glazing bars, along with a blind window on the right side. The frames of the sashes are nearly flush with the wall.

In the attic, there is a small hipped dormer. A blocked doorway is located between the two left-hand bays, while a doorway between the two right-hand bays is accessed by two stone steps. This doorway has a six-panelled door with a moulded surround, topped by a flat bracketed hood, and aligns with a red brick double ridge stack. At the right end of the house, there is a plank door that is topped by a wooden trellis grille within a moulded surround, leading to a passageway at the rear of the property.
