Description
These are two houses, now shops and dwellings, situated on Alcester High Street. The core of the building dates back to the 17th century, although it was significantly altered in the mid-19th century. The construction is timber-framed with lath and plaster and brick infill, and the front is of whitewashed brick. The roof is tiled, and there are brick stacks. The building has a U-shaped layout.
It is two storeys high with a three-window front. Number 17 has a late 19th-century shop front featuring a glazed door, a bay window with moulded shafts, and a fascia. Number 19 has a late 20th-century shop front. A central 20th-century door provides access to a through passage. The first floor windows are 16-pane sashes with gauged brick flat arches above. The through passage reveals exposed timber framing.
Number 17 incorporates a single-storey timber-framed wing with brick infill, connected to a taller 19th-century brick range. Number 19 features a larger two-storey timber-framed wing with colourwashed brick and plaster infill, which connects to a long 18th- or 19th-century brick range. The fenestration is irregular, with 19th- and 20th-century casement windows. The interior was not inspected at the time of listing.
