Description

A cottage, later used as a shop, dating from the 17th century. The building is timber-framed and covered with roughcast rendering. It has a tile roof, and no chimneys are visible. The layout is L-shaped. The cottage is two storeys high with an attic, and has a two-window front. The ground floor has been extended with a late 20th-century glazed door and bow windows. An entrance on the right leads to a passage at the rear. The first floor has 19th-century casement windows with glazing bars. A small roof dormer is in the attic. A rear wing features exposed timber framing with lath and plaster infill. One end wall has been rebuilt in whitewashed brick. Inside, there is a considerable amount of exposed timber framing, including a chamfered ceiling beam. Original features include old three-plank doors and 18th-century two-panel doors with H-L hinges. There is an open fireplace which has been altered and may not be original.
