Description
No. 21 High Street is a house that has been converted into a shop and dwelling. It dates from the 17th century and was heightened and refronted in the late 18th or early 19th century. The building has a timber frame with lath and plaster infill, and it has been refronted in whitewashed brick featuring a brick dentil cornice. The roof is tiled and there are no visible chimneys. The house has a double depth through passage plan and stands three storeys tall with a one-window range. The late 19th-century shop front includes a half-glazed door and a canted bay with thin shafts and narrow panels. The first-floor windows are sashes with a rendered flat arch, while the second-floor windows have painted wood lintels. At the rear, there is a framed gable that is underbuilt with whitewashed brick. Inside, some of the framing is exposed, and on the second floor, the original gable framing is visible in the side wall.
