Description

Carlton Post Office and Village Stores is a building that combines two houses into a single unit serving as a house and shop. The northern house has a datestone from 1624 and was altered in the 18th century. It is constructed of colourwashed limestone rubble and features a brick dentil course at the eaves, topped with an old clay tile roof. The building is two storeys high with a two-bay plan. On the east elevation, the first floor has two 3-light casement windows under timber lintels, while the ground floor has one 3-light casement window and a doorway to the right, which has a 20th-century bracketed doorhood.

The southern building bears an inscription on the south gable end reading "I.P.A. 1807." It is made of colourwashed coursed limestone rubble and has a concrete tile roof with tile gable coping. This section also has a two-storey, three-bay plan. The east elevation features three casement windows on the first floor, with the central window being 2-lights and the others 3-light, all under timber lintels. The ground floor has a central doorway with a flat doorhood, a 3-light fixed shop window to the left, and a single light casement and a 3-light casement to the right.
