Description
No. 54 Load Street is part of a house that has been converted into a shop. It dates from the late 18th century and was refronted in the early 19th century, with some alterations made in the mid-20th century. The building is constructed of stuccoed brick and has a tile roof. It stands three storeys tall and features a modillioned cornice at the parapet and quoins at the corners.
The building has two windows on the upper floors, which are sashes with tripartite glazing and pilastered architraves topped with a moulded cornice. The second floor has similar sashes set within pilastered and pedimented architraves. On the ground floor, there is an entrance on the left-hand corner with a plain wooden doorcase and a four flush panel door that leads to a staircase. To the right, the shop front includes a central recessed entrance flanked by two plate glass windows. It is noted that No. 53 was part of the same building.
