Description
No 50 Load Street is part of a house that has been converted into a shop and flat. It dates from the early 17th century but was refronted in the mid-18th century, with further alterations made in the mid-19th century and some in the late 20th century. The building has a timber frame that is clad in brick and features a hipped machine tile roof. It stands three storeys tall and has a dentilled brick cornice.
The building has one window that was originally a Venetian window but has been replaced with a four-light casement from the 20th century, while still retaining its plastered head. On the second floor, there is a four-light casement under a wooden lintel. The ground floor includes a shop window with a square bay of eight panes on the left, and to the right is an entrance that is pilastered, featuring a half-glazed door and an overlight.
Inside, some beams are exposed on the ground floor, including a console bracket that supports the former first-floor jetty to the right of the entrance. The framing of No 50 is integrated with that of Nos 51 and 52, and likely with No 49 as well.
