Description
Nos 47 and 48 on Load Street is a house that has been converted into a shop. It likely dates from the first half of the 16th century but was refronted in the mid-19th century, with some alterations made in the mid-20th century. The building features brick cladding over a timber frame and has a machine tile roof. It stands three storeys tall, with the left-hand part of the front canted back and a dentilled brick cornice. The façade has one window on the ground floor and two on the upper floors, all of which are sash windows with tripartite glazing under painted stone lintels. The second floor windows are similar but have wooden lintels. The ground floor has a pilastered shop front with scroll brackets supporting the cornice, three plate glass shop windows, and two entrances. The entrance on the left is recessed and has an overlight and glazed door, while the entrance on the right is similar. The interior has not been inspected but includes a continuation of the timber frame from the adjoining property, No 46.
