Description
Nos 25 and 27 on Church Street is a house that now includes a shop. It dates from the early to mid-18th century and was altered in the 20th century. The building is constructed from deeply-coursed, squared sandstone, although some areas are now partly rendered, and it has a 20th-century pantile roof.
The structure is three stories tall with a three-window front and features a single-storey shop projection on the front left. There is a two-storey wing at the rear right, with the angle filled in by a 20th-century extension. The building has large quoins, and the central quoined doorway is obscured by a glazed porch.
To the left, the flat-roofed projection has a 20th-century shop front, which is not of special interest. The ground floor has tall casements inserted to the right and to the outer windows of the first floor. The central window retains an original two-light, square-faced, mullioned window with leaded lights. On the second floor, there are three similar original windows, with the outer windows featuring three lights and wood casements for the central lights. The building is topped with shaped kneelers and gable copings, and has renewed brick stacks at the ends.
