Description
Thornhill Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the mid to late 18th century. It is constructed of coursed, dressed sandstone and features a damaged stone slate roof. The building has a three-storey, three-bay front with a two-storey wing to the rear left. It has large projecting quoins and square-cut door and window surrounds. The central doorway has been bricked up, as has the window to the right, while the left window opening remains unbricked. The outer first-floor windows are bricked, and the central window is blind. On the second floor, the central window is also blind, the right window is unbricked, and the left window is bricked with its dressings removed. There are fragmentary remains of shaped kneelers and gable copings, but the end stacks are missing.
Inside, the farmhouse has been extensively vandalised, with the central partition wall removed and the floors collapsing. It is in a critical condition at the time of resurvey. The farmhouse is believed to occupy part of an ancient manorial site.
