Description
Nos 51 and 52 on Load Street is part of a house that has been converted into a shop and offices. It dates back to the early 17th century but was refronted in the late 18th century, with some alterations made in the late 20th century. The building has a timber frame that is clad in brick and features a hipped tile roof. It stands three storeys high and has four windows. The windows are glazing bar sashes set under rubbed brick heads with stone sills. The second floor windows are similar to those on the first floor. The ground floor has a late 20th-century shop front with four panes on the left side, a recessed entrance with three glazed doors on the right, and a late 20th-century panelled door leading to a staircase at the right-hand corner. The first and second floors show extensive areas of visible framing, including close-studding with a mid-rail and traces of a jetty on the second floor. No 50 was part of the same structure, and it is likely that No 49 was as well.
