Description
No. 43 Load Street is a house that has been converted into a restaurant and flat. It dates from the early 17th century and was refronted in the early 18th century, with some mid-19th century and late 20th century alterations. The building features a timber frame that is clad in brick, topped with a tiled roof.
It stands three storeys tall and has a dentilled brick cornice and a band at the first floor. The building has two windows on the upper floors, which are boxed 16-pane sashes set under plastered wedge lintels with stone sills. The ground floor has a pilastered shop front with scroll brackets supporting the cornice. There is a passageway to the left corner that features a recessed 20th century ledged and boarded door. To the right corner, there is a shop entrance with an overlight and a glazed door, along with a plate glass shop window.
The timber framing is visible in the left gable, showcasing tall struts leading to a high collar, with V-struts in the apex.
