Description
No. 15 Castle Street is a house that has been converted into a restaurant. It dates back to the 16th century but was altered and given a new front in the early 19th century, with a rear extension added in the late 19th century. The building features a timber frame with a stuccoed front, a cement-rendered side, and yellow gault brick in Flemish bond at the rear, topped with an old tiled roof that is hidden behind a front parapet.
The exterior has two storeys and an attic. On the first floor, there is one recessed six-pane sash window, which has a projecting keyblock and a flat cornice supported by moulded consoles. The ground floor features a late 19th-century timber shopfront, which includes closed plate glass windows with a cast-iron ventilation strip above, a recessed central half-glazed door, plain pilasters, and a fascia beneath a slim cornice. The roof also has a modern box casement dormer.
The interior has not been inspected. This building is included as part of a significant group of buildings along the street.
