Description
Nos 1 and 2 Welch Gate is a house that has been converted into a shop and two flats. It dates from the mid-18th century, with early 19th-century and some mid-20th-century alterations. The building is made of stuccoed brick and has a hipped tile roof.
The structure is divided into two parts. The left section has three storeys and features a dentilled brick cornice and a rounded corner on the right. This part is recessed by about 2 metres and includes a 16-pane sash window under a segmental head on the ground floor, a second 16-pane sash window on the second floor, and an entrance at the left-hand corner with a wooden architrave, overlight, and half-glazed door, along with a plate-glass shop window to the right.
The right section has two storeys and an attic, which is lit by a flat-roofed dormer. It features a tripartite sash window, and on the ground floor, there is a coach entrance to the right with a two-leaf door, and to the left, a 4-light casement window. The entrance to the shop on the return side has a flat wooden canopy and a 20th-century glazed door.
