Description
Nos 4 and 6 Market Place is a house that has been converted into shops and offices. It dates from the late 18th century and has undergone some later alterations. The building is constructed of rendered brick with stone dressings and features a slate roof. It stands three storeys high and has five bays arranged in a 2:1:2 pattern, originally designed with a central hallway plan. The ground floor has 20th-century shop fronts that are not of special interest. On the first floor, there are tall plate-glass sash windows, with five smaller sash windows above. All the windows have projecting stone sills. The building is topped with a moulded stone cornice and has a steeply-pitched roof with a stone-coped gable and a 19th-century brick end stack on the left.
