Knowles Mill Cottage is a house dating from the late 18th century, with some alterations from the mid-19th century and mid-20th century. It is constructed of random sandstone rubble with brick dressings and features a machine tile roof with a gable end stack on the right side. The cottage is two storeys high and has a dentilled brick cornice.
On the upper floor, there are two windows: a 2-light casement window on the left and a 3-light casement window on the right. The ground floor includes a 24-pane boxed sash window under a segmental head to the left and a 3-light casement window under a segmental head to the right. The central entrance is framed by a wooden architrave and is topped with a flat canopy, featuring a 20th-century ledged and boarded door.
