Description
Knowles Mill is a water mill dating from the late 18th century, with some alterations made in the mid-19th century. The building is constructed from random sandstone rubble, featuring brick dressings and a tiled roof. The east gable has two storeys, with a stable door on the ground floor and a loft on the first floor, along with a 2-light casement window in the attic. On the west gable, there is an overshot iron mill wheel, and inside the mill, remnants of the gearing can be found, including a spur gear retaining the pit-wheel, wallower, great spur wheel, and crown wheel. The mill originally had two pairs of stones.
