Description
Aiskew Mill is a water mill built in the late 18th century and modified in the mid 19th century. It is constructed of red brick with ashlar dressings and has a pantile roof. The building stands three storeys high and features three bays, with a full-height 19th-century outshut on the left and a single-storey outshut on the right that houses a wooden water-wheel.
The central three bays have their first two floors dating from the 18th century, characterized by stone quoins. The outer bays on the slightly sunken ground floor have 4-pane side-sliding sash windows, with the right bay having a partly blocked opening featuring a flat brick arch. The central bay also has a similar blocked opening. On the first floor, the left bay contains a board stable door, while the other bays have 4-pane side-sliding sashes with flat brick arches. The second floor features 4-pane sashes in the outer bays, which are topped with segmental brick arches. The roof is hipped.
The left outshut includes a 12-pane, 3-light side-sliding sash in a large opening below a timber lintel with brick blocking, and a 4-pane side-sliding sash above. The right outshut has a small board door. Inside, the mill retains all its wooden machinery, including two sets of millstones, all from the late 18th century.
