Description
Stadhampton Mill is a watermill dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century. It is constructed from limestone rubble and brick, topped with an old plain-tile roof. The building has a rectangular gable-fronted plan with an outshut over the tail race and stands two storeys high plus a loft. The windows are irregularly placed segmental-headed casements, with the entrance and a first-floor loading door located in the front gable wall. The lower part of the front wall and the rear gable wall are made of stone, while the rest is brick laid in Flemish bond. There is a renewed external stair leading to the loft doorway at the rear, and the roof is half-hipped. A metal overshot wheel is situated in a pit to the right. Inside, the wood and metal gear is almost entirely intact. The mill had two pairs of stones and was operational until 1938.
